In Japan, streets usually do not have a name so it is difficult to give directions as a result, a house numbers refer to a "block." A typical Japanese address would appear like this: 14-06, Hanazakura chome, Yuugiri The 14 is the number of the number of the block inside Hanazakura chome and the 06 is the number of the building within that area. Hanazakura is the district (or "chome") inside Yuugiri because the city isn't as large as cities such as Tokyo and Osaka, there are no wards in Yuugiri. Sometimes there would be a number after the district name (i.e. Miyako 6) because there may be a few districts with the same name, this sort of information is used in subway transit but because Yuugiri does not have too many districts, there are no worries with numbers after district names.
